The CHILD in Child House

Last October 1, the presence of some members of USTHS80 at the Child House conversely became a firm quiet stand of our solidarity and commitment to this place we shall properly name this time – CHILD; or the Center for Health Improvement & Life Development.  Dr. Erwin Francisco Estimo, resident physician, hiding in vain his embarrassment as he noticed the unasked question in our minds, explains the reason for the acronym is the Filipinos penchant for it.  Simple as that.

A center needing holistic intervention and long-haul development is exactly the direction we find our organization is heading into.  The drawing power of the place to evince this kind of response can be evidenced from the reactions and the actions taken by those who have visited it.  Beth Rey-Matias came with the SPC one time and saw its deep, growing needs and its receptiveness to improvement that she decided to donate her Special Education materials and her expertise (implementing Sped Program for these displaced children).  Leo came with his camera and took 240 shots in quick succession before coming up with this brilliant idea of adopting a room managed by our group where we can set-up our multi-purpose programs for the foundation.  This was immediately seconded by perennial seatmate, Rey Rey-Matias, who has been mulling and putting the wheel in motion to use his various positions in the medical profession and in the academe to hold regular medical missions for diagnostics and referrals.  Jeff Castro, Lou Torres and I are hapless volunteers who will gladly help in whatever capacity.  Wendell came with his two pretty daughters, gave their donation, and I guarantee- they shall return!

Enough!  This is one perfect occasion best left to Leo’s medium.

See Mercy.  See Mercy smile.  See Mercy smile and play now.
